Product Description

Campbell Mattinson - Wine Front 95 Points. Gary Walsh 95 Points. From the winemaker :Grenache is the variety that I am most fond of from McLaren Vale. Given our warm,  Mediterranean climate, it grows as well here as any of the most revered Grenache wine regions of the world including the Southern Rhône of France, Priorat in Spain and Italy’s Sardinia.
This Grenache is sourced from a single vineyard of 69 year-old vines that are simply managed, without pesticides, to ensure the optimal expression of the fruit. Only 250 dozen were made.
2011 was cool and not without challenges across the country however, with meticulous attention to detail in this vineyard, the fruit harvested was healthy, bright  and un-stressed with excellent flavour development due to it’s longer ripening. This cooler vintage has resulted in a wonderful, rustic Grenache – medium bodied and  highly fragrant.

An extraordinary, highly perfumed wine with an assortment of heady aromas of musk , Turkish delight and dried woody herbs.
Being a cooler vintage, the fruit is lively and fresh with youthful, juicy, concentrated characters of pomegranate and morello cherry . This Grenache has an elegant, medium-body with a sustained, savoury finish, and allimportant fine, proud tannins that complete the palate.
In my experience Grenache generally has two distinct stages of aging. The primary stage lasts for two to three years and it is all about the fresh berry fruit characters. The wine should then go through a quieter stage where the nose closes down. It is during this time the wine develops secondary bottle aged characters. This can take from three to five years and is a difficult process to predict as it is dependent upon how the wine is stored.
