Product Description

Reschke 2010 Vitulus Cabernet Sauvignon, Oak Handling Entire wine spent an average of 24 months in 30% new French oak hogsheads and 70% older American and French oak barrels. Regular racking carried out in the first year and second winters to help clarify the wine and also assist in the process of softening and lengthen its structure.Colour Medium intensity, garnet, Red berry fruit with nuances of mulberry, cherry and classic Coonawarra mint. There are obvious vanilla and charry oak characters.Palate Sweet red currant, raspberry and dark chocolate flavours upfront and stalky/savoury notes at the finish. The structure is firm and medium bodied, almost sweet texture coming from a lengthy time in barrel.

Winemaker’s Comments The 2011 Vitulus is a little removed from the normal style of previous vintages, in that the oak is new, charry and obvious. There were no Empryean or Bos wines produce during this difficult vintage, instead the best fruit and brand new oak was saved instead for Vitulus. As a result, this is one of the best Vitulus’ produced thus far and should remain a great drinking over the next 10 years. Peter Douglas
