Product Description

Baileys of Glenrowan was one of the original pioneers of wine production in North-East Victoria and produced its first vintage in 1870. Since this time Baileys has become renowned for consistently producing intensely flavoured rich wines.

The old vines planted in the 1920s are all dry grown and deliberately low yielding, resulting in the production of small intensely flavoured Shiraz berries.

This single vineyard wine has components that have been hand crafted using traditional winemaking methods such as open fermentation and pressed using our 100 year old basket press. This Shiraz has been matured in predominantly new and seasoned French Oak.

Winemaker Comments Paul Dahlenburg

Vineyard Region Glenrowan, North-East Victoria.

Vintage Conditions Due to dry spring conditions, vigour was held to a desirable level. The dry conditions continued through summer with harvest commencing in mid February, producing a low yielding crop with fruit intensity and balance.

Peak Drinking This wine will develop further complexity with time and reward medium to long term cellaring.

Grape Variety Shiraz

Maturation

After pressing, the wine was matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (60% new, 30% seasoned), with the remainder in seasoned American oak barrels.

Colour Vibrant bright purple.

Nose The nose offers lifted aromas of spice and cedar, with floral aromatics of violets and lavender.

Palate The Baileys 1920s Block Shiraz delivers rich, bright blue fruits on the palate with fine chalky tannins, with traditional Baileys structure. This wine is approachable in its youth but with time, this wine will also reward with complexity from careful cellaring.
